Following a series of successful projects with small companies in East Lancashire, ML System Services have announced 'FirstBase', a first database-supported Business Support System.

Built on the experience of these projects, FirstBase is a combined product and methodology providing least cost, least disruption and maximum improvement for small companies.

Joe Norris, Director of ML, says, "Many small companies suffer from their own success by demanding more time from owner / managers to process paperwork rather than building and running the company.

"Typically, the systems have grown up around a combination of manual forms and registers, supported with spreadsheet and word processing template. Organising and producing the paperwork to support business transactions takes more and more time, and extracting meaningful management summary information involves major exercises."

FirstBase comprises a significant Business System Database. built on Microsoft's Access product.

Equally important, however, is the method of building a company-specific set of documents and reports from the companies existing system.

This approach provides all the benefits of an integrated IT-based system, but with the familiarity of existing processes and transactions.
