French Aerospace Supply Chain Group buys first Supply Link 'TagBin' RFID System

Supply Link Systems of Blackburn has sold its first 'TagBin' RFID System.

It has been chosen by French Aerospace Supply Group 'Specialist Technologies' to support component and fastenings supply and dispensing to customers Heath Tecna (Camberley, Surrey) and Contours (South Wales), both members of the Premium Aircraft Interiors Group.

'TagBin' operates in conjunction with the successful Twin Bin stock/dispenser system from Hurst Green Plastics of Whalley.

The Hurst Green simple elegant bin unit has two protected chambers arranged vertically and separated by a slider. Pulling the slider delivers the reserve batch into the active chamber. This design h as improved control for many users, often delivering impressive returns on the investment.

The introduction of RFID technology takes the supply solution to a new performance level. 'TagBin' enables the bin to signal whenever the slider is pulled and the reserve chamber becomes empty. Bins no longer need to be individually examined to establish requirement for replenishment. When the compartment separator is pulled to access the second batch of components, an RFID label is exposed, indicating that replenishment is required. The status is identified either real time using fixed readers or through a walk-by with portable readers, and replenishment signals automatically forwarded to the main stores, or in this case direct to S pecialist T echnologies

Each bin has 'empty' and 'full' tags, only one of which is exposed at any one time. Hence every bin is positively scanned each time providing for a fully self-monitoring system.

The first site (Heath Tecna) is worth £13,000 and consists of 350 bins, tags and reader capability. The second site has 750 bins.

Supply Link Systems was formed 12 months ago to exploit the RFID opportunity. It was supported initially by the Blackburn with Darwen Digital Development Unit, and by Blackburn Enterprise Trust.

ML System Services, an associate company of Supply Link, provides consultancy and software support.

The official product launch was at the recent Farnborough Air Show, where much interest was shown by visitors from the UK , across Europe , the USA and Asia .
